7 Ways to Shed the Pounds for Your Big Day

Go for half rice. White rice contains a lot of sugar, which can cause you to gain weight. If you don’t want to switch to brown or red rice, reduce your white rice helping into half. You’ll still be able to eat your favorite Filipino dishes without feeling sad, plus you’ll eventually get used to the half-helping of rice that you won’t look the rest even after the wedding.

Drink water. Iced tea, fancy coffee drinks, softdrinks, and even some fruit juices contain a lot of sugar and empty calories. Drink water with every meal instead, or figure out how to make your own fruit juice. Maybe even start taking your coffee black—it will have a stronger kick that way, too. Also, drinking water before every meal will also fill you up, making you eat less than you normally would.

Cut down on fried and fast food. There’s a lot of salt, sugar, and preservatives in fast food, and fried food is drowning in a lot of preservatives and fat. If you’d like to go healthier, go for grilled, or eat half the helping of your usual fast food order.

Eat within only 12 hours a day. Rather than fasting, vow to eat within a 12-hour window. Say, if you have your breakfast at 7 a.m., you have to have your last bite of food on or before 7 in the evening. If you’re feeling extra brave, shave off a few hours until you’re only eating during an 8-hour window.

Make dessert an option, or take none at all. Cakes, pastries, and anything else that’s for dessert is usually loaded with starchy carbohydrates, fat, and sugar. While they will always taste delicious, it will also make you pack on the pounds with just a few bites. Say no to dessert altogether, or if you can’t resist it, choose to share it with a group of friends or family.

Transfer your food into a container. If you’re a big snacker, chances are you eat straight from the bag. The next time you snack, put it in your hand or on a small piece of tissue. Rather than eating straight from your plate, ask for a smaller plate and transfer your food on it. It will help you control your portions.

Think of portion control. Fill half of your plate with fruits and vegetables, then your viand or meat should be just as big as the palm of your hand. Any grains, like rice or bread, should just take up ¼ of your plate. If you want to cut out more of the pounds, choose to make your plate smaller, and use a blue plate. Blue isn’t very appetizing to see while eating, so it will help you curb your appetite, too.
